When Sita Was A Microbe!
A provocative, out-of-the-box exploration of gender, sexuality, and ability. Through a multilingual, inclusive blend of spoken-word poetry, classical Indian dance, and music, WHEN SITA WAS A MICROBE! seeks to destabilize categories, traditions, and prejudices.
All proceeds will benefit the work of San Francisco Women Against Rape (SFWAR).
Please join us for this creative project in exploring and decolonizing categories of gender, caste, sexuality, and ability.
The Ardhanarishvara, Shiva's androgynous form, becomes the foundation for an exploration of gender identity in "I Have Never Known Two," while Sita transforms into a microbial plant-goddess in "Ganga Satellite," a sci-fi eco-feminist queering of the Ramayana.
This ensemble production features the talents of Antoine Hunter, Deepa Mahadevan, Ruby Mountain, Praba Pilar, Lakshmi Sriram, Anuj Vaidya, Gamzeh, Cathleen Riddley, Aniruddhan Vasudevan, and multitudes of microbes.
This show is a fundraiser benefit for San Francisco Women Against Rape (SFWAR).
This show will have ASL interpretation.
