Girlfriend In A Coma - Tribute to Morrissey & The Smiths
Girlfriend In A Coma is a passionate tribute to The Smiths and Morrissey. Thirty years after the breakup of one of alternative rocks most influential bands, there is no sign of a reunion from Morrissey and band mates. Girlfriend In A Coma creates an authentic live experience for fans that once witnessed the brilliance of The Smiths and fans that have been denied the opportunity. To continue paying homage to the bands front man, Girlfriend In A Coma also performs selections from Morrisseys solo career. This is truely the unhappy 30th anniversary tour for Smiths/Morrissey fans.

The group formed out of a notion by four friends that were also fans of The Smiths. It was the proverbial pebble in the shoe for Quinn and Sy. Together they had several failed attempts to construct a line up worthy of the stage. However with a passing comment about earlier attempts of this project, it sparked the interest of two other musician friends and suddenly the band was formed in September 2006.

Sy Seylers savvy to lead a successful tribute group has been proven with the success of he and Glenn's other band, The Reagan Years. For years Christopher Quinns projects have always been described as Smith-esque or performances like Morrissey. Guitar player extraordinaire, Glenn Riley, possesses the skills to recreate the guitar wizardry of Johnny Marr. Glenn is a professinal musician and instructor for National Guitar Association. He has written several instructional books published by Alfred Publishing. Bassist, Bryan Kimes has been a long time fan of The Smiths and it is evident in his execution of the set list. The combination of these four outstanding musicians has created an authentic Smiths experience for both adoring fans that saw the original line up and those who only wished they could have seen them back in the day.

Feeling the project shouldnt be limited to only Morrisseys days with The Smiths, the band also performs selections from Morrisseys solo career however primarily targets songs from the early 90s.

Girlfriend In A Coma debuted in October 2006 at The Ottobar in Baltimore. The show was very well received and the buzz started. Check out this blog in the City Paper under October 8, 2006 "Your Ass Is Covered". The groups second show in January 2007 was quickly published on the Baltimore City Papers Short List for attractions that weekend. This was the tip of the iceberg, as the word spreads from the bands shows (see press from Baltimore Sun Philadelphia Weekly Frederick News Post) and videos are viewed on YouTube, Girlfriend In A Coma is haled as the undisputed most authentic tribute to The Smiths and Morrissey on either coast. The band began branching out of the Baltimore - DC area in late 2007 and has started apprearing throughout the Mid-Atlantic states. In July 2007 GIAC filled in for an ailing Morrissey at Baltimore's Rams Head Live to rave reviews from Moz fans in attendance from around the world. While they have always enjoyed high attendance, it is now dangerous to walk up to a Girlfriend In A Coma event as they routinely sell out!
