In the midst of San Francisco's 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love, LANDMARK MUSICAL THEATRE is pleased to present HAiR, the American Tribal Love-Rock Musical. The first true rock musical to reach Broadway will play August 4-26, 2017, at the historic Great Star Theater in San Francisco's Chinatown, along with three amazing accompanying events: The HAiR Cause Shows on Sunday evenings, August 6th, 13th and 20th, benefiting the Hungry, the Homeless, the Environment and the Children, produced by HAiR Executive Producer Barbara Moore in cooperation with several major non-profit groups targeting a variety of worthy causes.

All three of the HAiR Cause Shows will be hosted by none other than the legendary Lester Chambers of the Chambers' Brothers with his current band. Lester, whose original band was famous for the megahit "Time (Has Come Today)" will be joined by other acclaimed artists such as Gloria Jones, Rolan Bolan (Gloria and T-Rex singer and guitarist Marc Bolan's son), Angel Reyes, who toured with San Francisco's Sylvester and his Hot Band ("You Make Me Feel Mighty Real"), Italy's newest national treasure Andrea DeLuca and internationally acclaimed Marcus Marcado. We will have Freedom For the Planet Earth if we communicate LOUDLY through our music and our passion!

Sunday, August 6th at 7 PM

HAiR's very own Gloria Jones of the original Los Angeles tribe circa 1968, who also achieved fame as the rock/soul singer/songwriter who penned, among many other songs, Gladys Knight's Grammy-nominated hit "If I Were Your Woman" will be presenting the Story of Building the Dream that she and her love and partner, the late Marc Bolan from T-Rex, visioned many years ago. Their son, Rolan Bolan, will join Gloria, along with Lester's band, HAiR alumni led by Kevin Mason, and other notable Bay Area musicans as they rock it for the the benefit of kids worldwide and the Marc Bolan School of Music & Film in Sierra Leone.

Sunday, August 20th at 7 PM

Joining Forces with HAiR

Gerry Ragni, Jim Rado and Galt McDermot wrote the book, lyrics and musical score to the highly acclaimed first major rock musical HAiR which premiered at New Yorks brand-new Public Theatre in the fall of 1967. The story of how impresario Michael Butler joined forces with director Tom O'Horgan and choreographer Julie Arenal to break new ground by bringing HAiR to Broadway in 1968 is legendary.

Our local director, Jon Rosen, is working hard to bring as much of the creativity that went into the original to his new young local tribe, named Uli (which means hair in the ancient native American language Rammaytush!) He is joined by choreographer Jennifer Lee Ho, who played the role of Crissy in the original San Francisco production of HAiR in 1969 along with local music director and drummer/percussionist John Hollis and vocal director Nicole Faghihi.

The opportunity to bring this show back to San Francisco in a production which is designed to emulate the original as it was produced 50 years ago is priceless, said Rosen. We are proud and honored to have the support of so many original tribe members, including not only Jenny Ho, but also Zia Westley (Sheila, Crissy and Jeanie in both the San Francisco and Los Angeles tribes), Jonathon Johnson (who played Claude in the final six months of the original Broadway production), Kevin Mason, and many others including the Silver Indian himself, Michael Butler. Our ability to join with the Cause Shows to benefit so many important charitable causes makes this even more important. We need these kinds of partnerships between the arts and the important causes in our communities even more than ever.

Tickets for the HAiR Cause Shows are on sale now for a flat $20.00 per ticket. You can also purchase a General Admission Ticket for both the Sunday matinee (3 PM) HAiR performance and the accompanying Cause Show for the low price of $40.00. Normally, the HAiR ticket would be $30.00 by itself, but Landmark Musical Theatre is generously splitting the value of the combined ticket evenly with the Cause Shows so that the Cause Show ticket price is contributed at full value.

HAiR performances actually start one hour prior to curtain (2 PM on Sundays) with a pre-show that will consist of short performances by local musicians and street buskers, HAiR tribe members, other talented participants (magicians, jugglers, aerialists, etc.), some films about the history of HAiR and the 1960s, and many other activities that will enhance your enjoyment of the production. Post-show audience talk backs will offer the opportunity to learn more about the days and ways in which HAIR was first created.
