POWER of Community, Connection, and Cohousing
Schemata Workshops co-founding principal and cohousing expert, Grace Kim, will give an expanded version of her 2017 TED talk on cohousing and community as an antidote to social isolation. A cohousing exhibit will be on display within the architecture firms office space. A tour of the upstairs Capitol Hill Urban Cohousing mixed-use development will follow her talk, showcasing and demonstrating the POWER of residents to act upon a dream of building a resilient social network and physical building. Meanwhile, Schemata Workshop will be actively engaging the Capitol Hill neighborhood with a Park(ing) Day installation at the street with an open space for the public to stop, enjoy a meal, draw a picture, play a game, have a conversation, or read a book. We intend to share the concepts of cohousing, of living collaboratively with your neighbors, and of eating together, and how such intentional actions can create social cohesion while building strong communities.
Grace H. Kim is an architect and co-founding principal of Schemata Workshop, an architectural practice with a keen focus on building community and social equity. Kim is also a founder of Capitol Hill Urban Cohousing and an internationally recognized expert in cohousing -- the art and craft of creating communities.
