Language of School Advocacy Back to School Basics
This on-going weekly educational series supports parents and caregivers who feel confused and overwhelmed by the school system, IEPs, or 504 plans. Stop asking the same question, and start learning how to communicate, collaborate, and plan effectively for your child. Parents, family members and professionals are welcomed and encouraged to attend!
Module 2: Back to School Basics
Along with new smiling faces, a new school year brings, new teachers, anxiety and paperwork. In order to help you be as effective as you can with your child, I've put together back-to-school tips that I know will make managing your new school year little easier. I'll give you hands-on tactics, check lists and handouts.
Bring your paperwork! Yes that box, bag or pile that you have no idea what to do with. We will dive into it and organize: - What to keep handy for each IEP/504 meeting & what can be placed in deep storage - Keeping track of concerns, problems and worries - Logging phone calls, meetings and the face to face "chats" you have. - Emails, notes, child's work, communication books/agendas and why its important to keep it all
