Carlos Reyes & Friends - Paraguayan Harp & Jazz Violin
Music is a spirit that knows no limits, and multi-instrumentalist Carlos Reyes is it's prophet. Carlos delights in revealing the unique beauty of every genre, from classical, jazz, pop, and his Latin roots, to his own original compositions. Listening to Carlos perform is to hear a virtuoso at play, relishing each song with boundless enthusiasm. He performs with an infectious joy in music and a love he pours out to his audience. A star in his own right, Carlos creatively blends classical, pop, folk and jazz into a storm of outlandish original beauty.
The son of a national musical hero in Paraguay, Carlos began learning the violin at the age of three. Recognized as a prodigy, he was challenged by his father to learn the Paraguayan harp. He purchased his first harp at the age of ten and two weeks later he earned a double encore and $250 at his first professional harp concert. Since then he has taken the harp and its music to ground-breaking levels.
He made his debut on harp with the Oakland Symphony and his debut on the violin with the Oakland Youth Symphony at just fourteen years of age. Continuing his early musical education, Carlos learned to play many different instruments including guitar, bass, mandolin, keyboards, as well as mastering the use of a variety of electronic devices and special effects. He has worked in the professional recording industry for commercials, as a solo artist on instrumental background music for the acclaimed childrens shows Sesame Street and Villa Alegre when he was still in his teens.
Carlos thrilled thousands of loyal followers with the Jazz-Rock group Merlin as they played all over the SF Bay Area. Carlos's first album, The Beauty of it All, was on the Top-Ten Contemporary Jazz charts in Billboard Magazine for over 15 weeks. Since then he has recorded, produced, and contributed to many recordings, performed with headliners such as Chuck Mangione, Bill Evans, Clark Terry, Pat Travers, MC Hammer, and has shared the stage with The Crusaders, The Rippingtons, Charlie Daniels, Wynona Judd, Clint Black, Willie Nelson, The Doobie Brothers, rocker Steve Miller and many more. He has toured Europe and Asia performing at music festivals and renowned theaters. Remembering his roots, he has started a program to bring musical instruments to the children of Paraguay beginning this year.
