Eurasia Festival: Vyacheslav Gryaznov. Pianist and Composer
Pianist and composer, Vyacheslav Gryaznov was born in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in 1982. His musical talent became evident in his early childhood and developed so quickly that his parents, who were not musicians themselves, took the heroic step of giving up everything and moving to far-away Moscow, despite having nothing and no one there, all for the sake of their sons professional musical education.
In 1991, at the age of 9, Vyacheslav entered the Central Music School of the Moscow State Conservatory (class of Professor Manana Kandelaki), graduating with honors in 2001. From 2001 to 2006 he did his undergraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory (class of Professor Yuri Slesarev), once again completing his degree with honors. From 2006 to 2009 he attended the Moscow Conservatory as a post-graduate student, and since 2008 he has been on the teaching faculty of the Moscow Conservatory, where he holds the position of assistant to the Professor Slesarev in the Piano Department. Since the 2008/2009 concert season Gryaznov has belonged to the Moscow Philharmonic Society, which represents him in Russia. Since 2012 he has worked as a visiting professor of piano at Kurashiki Sakuyo University of Science and Arts (Japan).
Pre-eminent among Gryaznovs major transcriptions is his Rhapsody In Black on themes from George Gershwins opera Porgy and Bess. A large-scale stand-alone composition, it exists in two versions: as a piano concerto with orchestra and as a duet for two pianos. The eminent Russian pianist Nikolai Petrov commented: I believe that it is no exaggeration to say that this is an absolutely magnificent piece of work. It quite simply does not get any better than this a composition brimming with virtuosity and explosive creativity.
Thanks to his brilliant concert transcriptions, Vyacheslav Gryaznov has already gained a reputation as one of the most prominent young arrangers working today. His many published transcriptions include Glinkas Valse-fantasie, Rachmaninovs Italian Polka, a two-piano setting of the Second Suite from Ravels ballet Daphnis and Chloe, Habanera for two after Bizet for piano four hands, Debussys Pr?lude ? lapres-midi dun faune, and three Romances by Rachmaninov The night is sad, Vocalise, and How peaceful (2005, 2007, 2011, Deka-VS, Moscow, Masterpieces of piano transcription series , volumes 3, 8, 18).
In 2014 Gryaznov signed a publishing contract with Schott Music.
