Tour of Vashon
On the first Friday of every month Vashons art community likes to show off its talent and hard work. From 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM virtually every shop in downtown Vashon will be exhibiting a local artists work. With the First Friday Mostly True Vashon Tour you can get the low down on the historic downtown and be talking like a local in no time. First we'll hope on a bus and ride through some of the more interesting parts of the island before being dropped off downtown at 6:00 PM ready to take in all that First Friday has to offer. The tour is based on the popular books "The Mostly True History of Vashon and Maury Islands", and offers a vivid and lighthearted look at everything from where the one and only bank robbery occurred (with get-away rowboat no less) to where one of the very first UFO sightings took place in 1947 and, of course, the place where a bicycle is growing out of a tree (or is it a tree growing out of a bicycle.) Your tour guide will be the award-winning comedian and local history buff Chris Austin. If you want to hear him before you see him catch his broadcast "The Mostly True Radio Show". The program airs on the Voice of Vashon 101.9 FM every Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with encores every Saturday at noon. Make plans for a relaxing day enjoying all the sights, sounds and creature comforts of a unique island hideaway.
