Beyt Tikkun High Holidays Services One Sliding Scale Price for ALL Services
Pacific School of Religion (except for Second Day of Rosh Hashanah)
Berkeley, CA

Tickets prices are suggested based on a sliding scale based on annual income.

Our primary interest is to build a very special kind of transformative spiritual Jewish community filled with people who are interested in promoting a world based on love, kindness, generosity, social and economic justice, and environmental sanity. If you share those values, JOIN US, either as a member, or at least as a participant in our High Holiday celebrations. You do NOT have to be Jewish to participate with us or to join as a member.

Anyone who really wants to pray with us will be able to come at a price they can afford. We have a sliding fee scale according to your household income listed below. Our fees are far lower than most Bay Area synagogues. And if you really really really can't afford to pay at any level, you can come for free if you register by September 5th.

Let us explain our situation. Right now, we are a synagogue-without-walls, so we have to rent facilities, pay for musicians, and many other expenses. Our rabbi works for free but since he has no other source of income, we'd like to be able to pay him some salary in 2018. We hate to have to charge anything. We wish there were some benefactor who could make a large tax-deductible contribution sufficient to pay for our year-round expenses so we'd never have to charge anyone for anything. But given our challenge the ethos of materialism and selfishness embedded in the capitalist marketplace, we don't tend to attract too many wealthy benefactors, and since this is the only time in the year when many Jews show up to any synagogue, almost all of us have to ask for money. What we can do is guarantee that no one who can't afford to pay is turned away. Here, however, we have to be cautious, because in the past we've encountered many affluent Bay Area high-earners who say "sure, I can afford to pay, but religious services aren't worth it to me, so I want to pay very little." That's a different situation, and we say to them, "Ok, if you are a professional or work in a large corporation, and you think we are charging too much for our 3 or 4 hours of a religious service, please pay what you'd charge your clients or corporation for 4 hours of your work!"

The best way you can help us is to join as a member, paying 1% of your annual household income. But if you really believe in our mission and want to support it, but can't afford that 1%, then pay what you can afford (in the past we've said "not less than $300 for an individual and $400 for a couple," but if that is too much, the join for what you think you can afford).

You can also arrange to pay membership dues monthly or quarterly-contact staci@tikkun.org to set that up and make sure you specify that this is for Beyt Tikkun memberhship (she also handles membership in the Network of Spiritual Progressives) Membership involves free entrance to High Holidays, Sukkot, Chanukah, Tu B'shvat (environmental holiday) and our Passover Seder celebrations). You also receive a free online subscription to Tikkun magazine and a copy of Rabbi Lerner's Embracing Israel and Palestine or Cynthia Moe Lobeda's book Resisting Structural Evil: Love as Ecological-Economic Vocation. Rabbi Lerner serves our members in many ways: from birth ceremonies to bar or bat mizvahs, weddings, conversions to Judaism, visits to the sick, and funerals/burials.

Membership: Members receive free entrance to all High Holy Day services.  Click here to renew or apply for membership.

If you don't want to join, you can buy tickets for all services on a sliding scale using the form below. You can also make a donation to our synagogue over and above what you'd pay for High Holidays.

If you'd prefer to do all this by mail, please please send a check made out to Beyt Tikkun to 951 Cragmont ave, Berkeley, Ca. 94708 and let us know which services you'd like to attend.

PLEASE NOTE - The date shown below is the first day of the High Holidays. You are requesting tickets for ALL services, September 20th through 30th, using this form.
