Group Pastry Chef Mathew Rice of James Beard award winner Gerard Crafts Niche Food Group (Sardella, Brasserie by Niche, Pastaria, Taste by Niche and Porano Pasta) will host Scoop & Gather, a charity ice cream social and bake sale pop-up, on Saturday, June 24 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at roar (8150 Big Bend Blvd, Webster Groves, MO 63119).
The Scoop & Gather event will feature special ice cream flavors and ice cream-inspired baked goods from St. Louis top pastry chefs like Neapolitan cookies, rainbow sherbet cake and, of course, an abundance of sprinkles!
All proceeds from the event will benefit the International Institute of St. Louis locally as well as ACLU of Missouri.
In addition to the delicious treats, St. Louisans will get a chance to meet acclaimed chef and new cookbook author, Dana Cree, the executive pastry chef of The Publican restaurants in Chicago (The Publican, Publican Quality Meats, Publican Tavern, Publican Anker).
The two-time James Beard finalist for Best Pastry Chef recently released her first cookbook, "Hello, My Name is Ice Cream," a collection of recipes for delicious ice cream flavors and melt-in-your-mouth mix-ins as well as insights into the science of ice cream. Chef Cree will be doing a book signing at the event, and ice cream fanatics can purchase her book along with an all-you-can-eat ice cream pass for $28 (not including popsicles and ice cream sandwiches, which will be available for additional purchase).
For $8, attendees will sample all special ice creams, which will include collaboration flavors between Rice and Cree, inspired by her book, as well as selections from Beckie Jacobs at Serendipity Homemade Ice Cream. Rice and Sarah Osborn, executive pastry chef of Pastaria and Sardella, will curate the list of accomplished chefs to participate in collaboration with local blogger Feed Me With Amanda. The event will also feature local design collaborations with Daily Disco and Cheree Berry Paper. All sales of the ice cream and pastry items will benefit the charities. Tickets will also be available at the door, for $10 and $30.
The Scoop & Gather event follows the success of the Bake & Gather event that Niche Food Group hosted at their commissary space in April. Both events are part of a national initiative, started by Zoe Nathan, co-owner of the Rustic Canyon Family of Restaurants in Los Angeles, under the umbrella organization of & Gather For Good. The events are meant to be a spark of inspiration to show that you can make a difference through simple actions within your own communities.
