Professor Louie and the Crowmatix!
Tannery Pond Center (TPC) is kicking off Memorial Day Weekend with a rock'n'roll concert by Professor Louie and the Crowmatix. The Woodstock, NY based Crowmatix is an all-star band whose members have toured and recorded with Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and The Band. Louie, who got his nickname from Rick Danko, produced and played on The Bands hit version of Bruce Springsteens Atlantic City.
The Cromatix headlined the 2016 Veterans Day concert at the Homer Center for the Arts and have been invited to play at the 2017 Watchfire event at the New York State Fairgrounds, which is expected to draw up to twenty thousand people.
Professor Louie and the Crowmatix tour the country and the world extensively, often doing shows with The New Riders of the Purple Sage, Commander Cody, and Guy Davis. The band did many tours with the late Buckwheat Zydeco. Their current CD, Crowin the Blues is steadily climbing the contemporary blues charts. Louie also received an international award for and original composition Melody of Peace, performed with the Prague Radio Symphony in the Czech Republic. The band has been inducted in the Canadian Blues Hall of Fame and the NY Blues Hall of Fame.
TPC has dedicated this concert to Veterans, and is providing free admission to all area military veterans.Professor Louie has created a strong relationship with veterans, primarily through his award-winning work at the Veterans Initiative program at the Common Ground on the Hill Festival in Westminster, MD. The veterans songwriting and poetry has opened my heart, ears, and eyes, says Louie. Working with them in and artful, creative way has been quite rewarding, especially when they are performing their work to thunderous applause from an audience. Professor Louie has offered to conduct a songwriting workshop for vets to be held sometime over the summer. A sign up sheet will be available the night of the concert. Professor Louie and the Crowmatix will return in November for a Veterans Day concert in which original songs and/or pieces from the workshop will be performed.
