Come join the Fairfield-Nirasaki Sister City Program at its 5th annual "Japan Fest" fundraising event on Saturday, August 19! The event will run from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Fairfield Community Center at 1000 Kentucky Street.
The event will include performances and activities for all ages, as well as an Asian-inspired lunch, according to a press release about the event. Performers include Ensohza, an exciting Japanese folk dance group, as well as the Wesley Ukulele Band from San Jose. The Sacramento Kendo Club will also be doing on-stage demonstrations of Japanese martial arts. Children and families can learn origami, calligraphy, and many other aspects of traditional Japanese culture at numerous activity and game tables. Experts from the Northern California Japanese Sword Club will be displaying swords, and an ikebana teacher will teach the art of flower arrangement as well. There will also be plenty of Japanese goods for sale.
All proceeds from this event will go to the Fairfield-Nirasaki Sister City Program's annual student exchange activities, continuing a 46 year tradition of fostering important cultural exchange and understanding! The program receives no outside assistance and is dependent on donations.
