Elevator Repair Service's NO GREAT SOCIETY
Elevator Repair Service presents the return of Part 1 of "No Great Society." This revival of our original piece from 2006 will headline an eclectic program that will also feature a number of original short works as we welcome members of our New York performance community to share the stage with us.
"No Great Society" is a re-creation of Jack Kerouac's legendary appearance on William F. Buckley's political talk show "The Firing Line." The topic that night was "The Hippies" and the program featured a "hippie type," an academic expert on the movement and a drunkenly raving Kerouac.
Each presentation will also feature a changing line-up of short works by ERS performers Kate Scelsa, Gavin Price (Tender Touch), Ben Williams and Eva von Schweinitz, and ERS interns Spencer Armstrong (The Fossick Collective), Skylar Fox (Nightdrive), Tingying Ma and Christopher Stevenson (Theatre of War).
RUSH TICKETS are available at the Box Office for day of only. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the performance to put your name on the list. Rush tickets are $25 and will be released to the list in the order names were received five to ten minutes prior to curtain. Cash only. Limit 2 per person.

ABOUT THE WORKS
RICHARD II: AN EXPERIMENT An excerpt from the opening of Theatre of War's experimental working of "Richard II". The first of Shakespeare's 'Henry Histories,' it begins with a funeral procession for the dead Duke of Gloucester that melts into Gwen Stefani's decadent Bubblepolectric.
NEXT FAGGOT NATION "Next Faggot Nation" is a multimedia documentary investigation of Larry Kramer's controversial 1978 novel "Faggots". Jumping off from a 2016 interview with Mr. Kramer, Peter Staley, original ACT-UP up members and notable drag queens Alaska Thunderfuck, Violet Chachki, and Katya.
ZHONGGUONONGCUN (RURAL CHINA) "Zhongguonongcun ( Rural China)" is a performance which happens in an app called Kuaishou, or Kwai, a social media platform similar to Snapchat and uniquely popular in rural China. Millions of users, otherwise invisible in the mainstream, broadcast everyday life, singing pop-music, choreographing dances, sharing self-directed drama and cultivating fans. This revival of the image of rural China, as well as the fatigue of the concept itself, will be experienced as a live digital interface. ******************************Download the app on your smart phone by searching "Kwai" in your app store. To interact with the performance, you need to become a user and log in.********************
FULL TACKLE SALESMEN Mashing up "Death of a Salesman", reports on football-related head injuries, and a sports movie a la "Remember the Titans", "Full Tackle Salesmen" is a football game in a kitchen, exploring the performance of masculinity, the dramaturgy of games, and what happens when things onstage go horribly wrong.
MIND ON HEAVEN A hybrid performance, part documentary, part performance art, part conjuring. "Mind on Heaven" tunes into the vibrations of the late Dennis Palmer, a self-taught artist, and musician of the American South. Runs Sept 8-24 at Axis Theater in the West Village.
GERMAN INTERMEDIATE I / HEIMAT Lederhosen, Bratwurst, Krautrock, Autobahn. Real Estate, Small Talk, American Dream, AC.A German-American wrestles cultural identity, stereotypes, and nationalism by way of a language class.
ONE SMALL STEP "One Small Step" is a musical experiment of Tender Touch, a multimedia electronic band comprised of John Gasper and Gavin Price. It's June 2017. They are going to be the first people to walk on the moon. Ever.
EVERYONE'S FINE WITH VIRGINIA WOOLF In this queer, irreverent parody of Edward Albee's iconic "Whos Afraid of Virginia Woolf," no one is left unscathed by Martha's feminist ambitions. Rubbing alcohol will be consumed, imaginary pregnancies will be indulged, and gender constructs will be destroyed.
COCKTAIL SEMINAR Philip Greene, author of "To Have and Have Another: A Hemingway Cocktail Companion", and "The Manhattan: The Story of the First Modern Cocktail", cocktail columnist for "The Daily Beast", and co-founder of New Orleans Museum of the American Cocktail, guides you on a Cocktail Tour through the pages of literature, focusing on the favorite drinks of author Jack Kerouac.
