May Salon: Art of Resistance, Art of Resilience
This month, featured artist Nicholas Emery anchors an exhibition which explores the concepts of resistance and resilience. These ideas continue the discussions started by Collage City and the ideas of Colin Rowe and Fred Koetter.
Cities have always been places where new ideas develop, but also where the multiplicity of values act as a buffer, where no single ideology can easily overtake the whole. Cities may be said to embody a kind of cultural resistance inherent in their diversity, one which both generates ideas and tempers them, one which may be mirrored as well through a citys artists.
So, too, are they places which are physically resilient. Cities neither can be planned perfectly nor broken completely. They possess their own momentum, as do their citizens, lasting decade after decade, century after century, despite changes in government, economy, religion, and culture. Cities persist and, often, the ideas of those cities remain with them. Our salons are an opportunity to enjoy art in an intimate setting, along with talks and discussion. They're learning opportunities, but also chances for all attendees to share their ideas, thoughts, and experiences. Most importantly, we're there to talk about the art, and art's importance in the world today.
A percentage of ticket sales go to support our non-profit partners.
Please note: Because this is a forum for people to discuss ideas, hear new perspectives, and potentially change their minds, video recording andstreaming are not permitted during the salons. Though photography and social media is alwayswelcome! Please tag #FeralFactory.
