Chicago Urban Dance Collective, originally WallFlowers Dance Company is excited to announce our transition into nonprofit status! Our mission is to create a standard of professional Urban Dance in the concert dance community. To us, this means upholding the integrity of the street dance movement, originating from the African Diaspora, as well as providing opportunities to Chicago performing artists. Our movement is street dance-inspired presented through the lense of concert dance. Since the organizations creation in 2014, CUDC has had multiple opportunities to showcase our work, collaborate with Chicago organizations, and contribute to the dance community through education and performance opportunities. Currently, our Founding Artistic Director, Brittany Harlin, is a finalist for the Chicago Dancemakers Forum Grant and Mentorship Program.
Our next step is to establish our dance company as an incorporated non profit organization, and achieve 501c3 status. Our upcoming event, The Garden Party will be a celebration of our 3rd year as a company and stand as a benefit to raise funds for our first full-length dance production: Flower Child, featuring original composition by Chicago Composer, Josh Luis. In order to kick things off, well first need to fund this celebration & benefit to provide a glimpse into our mission, vision, and concrete plans for the future.
The Garden Party will feature all-chicago entertainment, including live performances by your hosts, Chicago Urban Dance Collective , singer Blake Davis , "The Limpest Wrist in Burlesque" Willy La Queue, photography gallery by Haley Scott , and music provided by our Chicago-based turntablist!
Visit the giving trees once inside in exchange for a fabulous, fresh, handmade flower crown of your choosing!
Nosh, sip, connect, and take in the essence of Chicagos artist community! Proceeds will go toward the Chicago Urban Dance Collective 2017 production Flower Child, as well as the continuation of our 2017-18 season!
