Arun Gandhi received daily, one-hour, one-to-one education sessions with his grandfather, Mahatma Mohandas K. Gandhi, for nearly eighteen months irrespective of the Mahatmas very full schedule. The lessons learnt still guide Aruns life and his activism in his role as Peace Farmer, planting seeds for personal and global transformation. Arun has been sharing these Lessons from My Grandfather around the world for many years.
Arun has regularly participated in the Renaissance Weekend deliberations with President Clinton and other well-respected Rhodes Scholars. He has been a Trustee of The Parliament of the World's Religions and is the Founder and President of the Gandhi Worldwide Education Institute. He has spoken on numerous occasions at the United Nations and is a regular collaborator with the Martin Luther King Centre of Atlanta.
The recipient of seven honorary doctorates, Mr. Gandhi is a board member of the Nelson Mandela's Children's Hospital in South Africa, a Trustee of the Parliament of the World's Religions and President of the Gandhi Worldwide Education Institute. He addresses and encourages ethical leadership while building a culture of peace and nonviolence. He shares inspirational and motivational approaches in support of his grandfathers charge to be the change.
The Interfaith Amigos Pastor Don Mackenzie, Rabbi Ted Falcon and Imam Jamal Rahman started working together after 9/11. Since then, they have brought their unique blend of spiritual wisdom and humor to audiences in the U.S., Canada, Israel-Palestine, and Japan.
With their willingness to openly address the usual taboos of interfaith dialogue the awkward parts of each tradition they create a more authentic conversation, between themselves and with their audiences, giving people an opportunity to step more fully into the rich promise of the interfaith experience.
In a presentation entitled, "Interfaith Dialogue for Challenging Times, the Interfaith Amigos share some of the promises as well as the problems related to developing an interfaith dialogue that can support collaborative action in our world. With warmth, humor, and wisdom, these three teachers guide an interfaith process that opens their audiences to spiritual treasures which support healing and wholeness.
Their first book, Getting to the Heart of Interfaith (Skylight Paths, 2009), brought them international attention, including coverage by the New York Times, CBS News, the BBC, and various NPR programs. Karen Armstrong calls their exuberant and courageous second book, Religion Gone Astray: What We Found at the Heart of Interfaith (Skylight Paths, 2011), an inspiration for all of us in these sadly polarized times. Their third book, Finding Peace through Spiritual Practice (Skylight Paths, 2016), looks at the specific issues we face in a pluralistic society and the spiritual practices that can help us transcend the roadblocks to effective collaboration on the critical issues of our time.
Unity in Lynnwood is an open and affirming, diverse spiritual community of those from different spiritual traditions and others from no spiritual tradition whatsoever. UIL teaches that while we explore and experience the Divine through the unique lenses of religion, the Divine which we explore and experience is One.
