Wild River Amphitheater Fundraiser concert with Dan Chouinard and Ann Reed
* * * THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED! * * *

The purpose for this concert is to raise funds for a new amphitheater at Wild River State Park near Taylors Falls, MN.  The existing amphitheater is hardly an amphitheater at all  just a slope across from the camping area with some wood planks for seats and a small display board.  There is no stage, cover, electricity or lighting.   The Friends of Wild River State Park feel this is inadequate and would like a covered stage with lighting and storage.
The new one would include a covered stage, electricity, lighting, and storage.   An amphitheater such as this would be used for interpretive programs, naturalist presentations, and other park gatherings.

Songwriter, singer, guitarist ANN REED has been performing for more than 35 years with her rich, dark-chocolate voice, storytelling from the human experience, and songs that find a permanent place in the heart. Of course some of her songs and stories might end up closer to your funny bone  a little irreverence never hurt anyone. Ann has toured North America coast to coast, doing concerts, clubs, festivals, and she's met wonderful fans and made friends all along the way.
The basics: Ann is a Minnesota native. She began teaching herself how to play the guitar at the ripe old age of 12 and has been a performer for her entire adult life. Growing up with two older brothers, she was influenced by whatever they were listening to  Kingston Trio, early Joni Mitchell, Vanilla Fudge, Cream, Buffalo Springfield, Beach Boys, Beatles, Pete Seeger  plus the writers and singers of her parents' era: Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney. Mary Travers  of Peter, Paul and Mary fame  was the first singer Ann heard who sang low, just like her. Validation!
You may have heard her on countless radio stations across the U.S. or on your very own iPod. Better yet, you may have attended one of Ann's concerts, where her rich vocals, masterful guitar work, and keen wit are center stage.
"Ann Reed's songs move me. I'm not easily moved, having heard a thousand or two songwriters, and her songs go to my heart. Some of them are completely perfect."
- - Garrison Keillor

ANN BANCROFT is an American author, teacher, and adventurer. She was the first woman to successfully finish a number of arduous expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic. She was inducted as honorary member of the National Women's Hall of Fame in 1995.
Ann Bancroft grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. She described her family as one of risk takers. Bancroft was a camper and staff member at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan and became a wilderness instructor and a gym teacher in Minneapolis (at Clara Barton Open School) and St. Paul.
She gave up her teaching post in 1986 in order to participate with the "Will Steger International North Pole Expedition". She arrived at the North Pole together with five other team members after 56 days using dogsleds. This made Bancroft the first woman to reach the North Pole on foot and by sled.
She was also the first woman to cross both polar ice caps to reach the North and South Poles, as well as the first woman to ski across Greenland. In 1993 Bancroft led a four-woman expedition to the South Pole on skis; this expedition was the first all-female expedition to cross the ice to the South Pole. In 2001, Ann and Norwegian adventurer Liv Arnesen became the first women to ski across Antarctica.
She currently co-owns an exploration company, Bancroft Arnesen Explore, with Liv Arnesen. She is also the founder and emeritus director of the Ann Bancroft Foundation whose purpose is described as "to empower girls to imagine something bigger and help them reach their full potential."
