ABOUT LIVING ALTAR Living Altar is a multi-disciplinary performative celebration of the lives of individuals killed in conflict, whether military or civilian, and regardless of origin, gender, religion, status, or profession. Through a series of successive 30-minute performance pieces called Living Altars, casualties are given a name, a face, a story, and equal value. These altars will be based on information gathered through surveys completed by those close to the deceased. Living Altar aims to create a space for collective grief, and asks the difficult question: what is a life worth?
THE LAGUARDIA WORKSHOP Living Altar is Kaimera Productions most ambitious work to date. The round-the-clock project will simultaneously premiere in NYC, Paris, Istanbul and Dubai, bringing together over 200 international performing artists. The upcoming workshop at the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center will serve as the laboratory for Kaimeras curatorial team and their global partners to test the pieces format, structure, drafting process, design and presentation approach. The audience will have ample opportunity to provide invaluable feedback to the Living Altar team, which will shape the project in a crucial moment of its development.
KAIMERA PRODUCTIONS Through performances created collaboratively by experts in and outside of the arts, Kaimera Productions [kai-mee-rah] provides platforms for audiences to come together in dialogue and examine some of the hardest questions our global society faces. Kaimera creates original performances and live experiences that blend theater, music, dance, multimedia, visual arts and more. Based in NYC and Paris, Kaimera is creating projects in five countries, including a piece that explores the ethics of data mining in Bengaluru (India), and an immersive exploration of an iconic Harlem location to be premiered at the 2017 Harlem Arts Festival. www.kaimeraproductions.com
