Collaborating with composers and writing their own music over the past 2 years, Duo Tandem has compiled a program of new music based on people, places, poetry, and art. From Skip James and John Henry to the contemporary Turkish poetry of Can Yücel, each piece of music has a story to tell. Towards that end, Duo Tandem is very excited to work with dancers Erika Farkvam, Danielle Gilmore, and Sarah Miller this time around to better tell the stories of Yesil Siir and John Henry.
Formed in 2011 in San Francisco, Duo Tandem (Necati Emirzade and Mark Anderson) is now based in Chicago and London. Mark, a native of Chicago, and Necati, a native of Cyprus seek to combine their respective folk music cultures into a unified international style that can resonate with a global society.
