~ CELEBRATING SURVIVORS ~
Verity, Sonoma County's sole rape crisis center, is throwing an end-of-the-month event: Celebrating Survivors! This fantastic bash is made possible in huge part because of the folks at Lagunitas Brewing Co and Second Octave, a local entertainment enterprise, for donating their time and talents to help us put on the event.
Drifter Pizza will have their pizza truck at the event so that patrons can buy and enjoy delicious pizza with their Lagunitas drinks!!
Survivors of sexual assault, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, and rape experience a great deal. Verity is there for all survivors and their families who want our support. We want to take a night to Celebrate Survivors and advocates, and to encourage community support in whatever form it takes! We appreciate all of the ways that our community supports survivors. We want to celebrate the survivors who are a part of our community! All money raised from admissions and raffle ticket sales go directly to Verity. All money from beer sales at this Lagunitas-based event will also go to Verity, with all the proceeds from wine sales also coming our way! We will also be accepting any and all donations throughout the course of Sexual Assault Awareness Month; all donations will be used to augment Verity programs.
Live music will be provided by Sonoma County's Lungs and Limbs and Sol Horizon.
Lungs and Limbs are an alt pop band from the San Francisco Bay Area. Known for their thick, hip-hop-and-80's-inspired beats, cowboy guitar licks and hook-laden vocals, the quartet's debut EP Lifelike (2015), written and recorded in a horse stable, garnered positive press from critics in the Bay Area, Boston, LA, Germany and beyond. Do the Bay describes Lungs and Limbs as "...a tight, clean sound that is refreshing to hear in a sea of lo-fi garage rock that seems to sometimes dominate the local music scene in SF."
Voted "Best World/Reggae band" in the North Bay Area, Sol Horizon seamlessly fuses roots reggae with rock, funk, and world music stylings. Anchored by veteran musicians, Sol is renowned for energetic live performances and their lyrical content, which centers on themes of peace, community, sustainability and the re-vitalizing power of nature. The band moves feet and inspires minds, creating a positive musical experience that continues to attract fans from across the globe.
"Best World/Reggae Band" Readers Poll Winner, NorBay awards 2010
"Sebastopol's Official Reggae Band." -Official city ordinance passed by Sebastopol mayor Sam Spooner
"Sol Horizon breaks all the rules, all the stereotypes, and reminds us, that we are all connected on this planet. Their music is genuine, and their messages are clear." -Beyondchron.com

Verity's mission: We, the people of Verity, working in cooperation with the community, strive to eliminate all forms of violence, with a special focus on sexual assault and abuse. Sexual assault is an unacceptable form of oppression, which is destructive to the lives of the survivors, their families, and their friends. Verity facilitates healing and promotes the prevention of violence by providing counseling, advocacy, intervention, and education in our community. We support social justice and equality for all adults and children who have been sexually assaulted. We are committed to ending sexual violence by working to eliminate the conditions that cause or tolerate it. We realize that the process to end the violence in our communities includes a collaboration of individuals, groups, and organizations. We are an active partner in that effort as a member of the community.
Verity was founded in 1974 as Women Against Rape, a grassroots organization for those traumatized by the rape of women. The agency included a phone number that women and survivors of assault could call for emotional support. Our crisis line is still the only one of its kind in Sonoma County, and it operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Today Verity is managed by a Board of Directors numbering up to 12, with daily activities performed by an 18 person staff and a volunteer base of 60 plus active members. We cannot do this alone, so please come out and support us and celebrate the hard work of our volunteers and staff as you Celebrate Survivors!

If you can't make the event, please feel free to donate online at squareup.com/store/OurVerity to help us continue to support survivors.
