Horacio Lavandera - Piano Evening
Worldly recognized, renowned American critic Ted Gioia (New York Times, Los Angeles Times, etc) included Horacio Lavanderas ECM recording with music by Dino Saluzzi in the Top 20 Best Albums of the year in 2015. It was recorded in Oslo by one industry legend, the German producer Manfred Eicher.
Award-winning pianist Horacio Lavandera presents at Zipper Hall a program including pieces for piano by Dino Saluzzi and classic masterpieces works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn and Gershwin.
Both as a pianist, composer and conductor, Horacio Lavandera, with his extraordinary combination of intellect and emotionality, is one of the outstanding musical personalities of our time. As the world's only Latin pianist, this 32-year-old artist owns a musical career of 15 years. He has made numerous appearances on international stages from Argentina to Asia and Europe, where he has performed with renowned orchestras in London, Madrid, Rome, and Madrid.
Winner of the Umberto Micheli competition
At the early age of 16, he won the Umberto Micheli competition at Teatro alla Scala in Milan. At the time, no less than Klaus Kalchschmid wrote in the Süddeutsche Zeitung after his presentation at Herkulessaal in Munich: "The fact that Horacio Lavandera can play brilliantly being only 17 years old is clear from the first minute."
His extensive repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary music. For his interpretation of Ravel's piano concerto in G major, he was awarded the special prize of the Philharmonic Orchestra alla Scala in the final round.
As the winner of numerous international competitions, along his career Horacio Lavandera has received invitations to perform with renowned orchestras all throughout America, Asia and Europe.
Apart from being a renowned pianist, he is now also developing a strong personality as conductor and a composer.
From the once Wonder Boy to a mature musical personality
In the Hispanic cultural environment, Horacio Lavandera is already a great star capable of selling out tickets for concert halls for thousands of music lovers, such as Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Teatro Real de Madrid, Auditorio National de Madrid, and literally "rocking" the stage.
He has been awarded first prizes as a participant in numerous international competitions: SHELL Prize, Musical Criticism Association Prize, Gardel Best Classical Album Prize, and more.
After he changed his residence to Europe, he received scholarships to take classes with great Maestros, such as Maurizio Pollini and Charles Rosen.
As an artistic director, Lavandera was in charge of two television programs entitled "Building Bridges" a set of conversations with emerging Argentinian composers- and "Nights of Music and Science". This last project was funded by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology in Argentina.

He was also featured in the film "Zonda" produced by Spanish director Carlos Saura in 2014.
And if music critic Josep Pascual writes in the Spanish music magazine "Scherzo", there is probably nothing to add. He did so about Lavandera's recording from his solo recital at the Wigmore Hall in London: "The result shows the convincing work of a pianist, who, after reaching his thirties, has the maturity to use all his skills, expression, and technical mastery to open every door to him. "
To date, Lavandera has played in every great concert hall of the world: Herkulessaal (Munich), Wigmore Hall (London), Jordan Hall (Boston), Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Rome), Musikverein (Vienna), Hamarikyu Asahi Hall (Tokyo), Teatro Real (Madrid ), Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires).
As a soloist he performed together with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Radio Televisión Española, the London Chamber Pleyers, the Orquesta Estable del Teatro Real and the Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under conductors such as Charles Dutoit and Antonio Pappano.
Contemporary music as an order
But not only has Horacio Lavandera made a name for himself for his interpretation of classical composers, but also in the field of contemporary music. In his role as a pianist, he always strives to link the old to the new music. That is why he strives to work with contemporary composers who represent the music of his own time.
For instance, he has worked on the interpretation of Karlheinz Stockhausen with the composer himself, visiting him along several consecutive years in his private studio in Kuerten (Germany).
Award-winning CD recordings
He was honored with the "Bicentennial Medal" of the City of Buenos Aires. In 2013, his album "Chopin" won the Gardel Prize as "Best Classical Music Album". In 2016, his CD "In London" received the same award.
In 2014, he was entitled as "Honorary professor" by the Universidad Nacional de Rosario.
Musical-poetic interpretations
Just as bold and intelligent as his interpretation of classical and contemporary music, his art is to express musically poetic programs of subtly shaped emotionality and sparkling inspiration: he lets the individual pieces of music listen to each other and become a composer himself.
