The Craft of Expressing Opinions: Writing Workshop for Concerned Citizens Session #1 hosted by Tenleytown Huddle
Tenleytown-Friendship Public Library
Washington, DC
Share this event:

Join author Aaron Hamburger for a creative writing workshop to translate our urgent citizen concerns into letters and essays.  Writing offers effective ways to examine and express our thoughts and opinions during this politically fraught time. In this hands-on training, participants practice techniques that enhance writing skills and generate meaningful messages:  letters to elected or government officials, op-eds  in newspapers, blog posts, or self-expression pieces. Bring your favorite writing instrument (hopefully pen and paper, though laptops are fine too) as well as open minds and hearts!  Prepare to have fun within a supportive community circle.

Aaron Hamburger has taught creative writing at George Washington University, Columbia University, NYU, and the Stonecoast MFA Program. His first book, a story collection--The View from Stalins Head (Random House)--won  the Rome Prize of  the American Academy of Arts and Letters.  His second, a novel set in Jerusalem--Faith for Beginners (Random House)--was nominated for a Lambda Literary Award.  His fiction, essays, and reviews have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, The Village Voice, Tin House, Tablet, The Forward, Boulevard, Subtropics, Crazyhorse, Poets and Writers, Carolina Quarterly, Nerve, Time Out, Details, and Michigan Quarterly Review.  His work earned fellowships from the Edward F. Albee and the Civitella Ranieri Foundations and residencies at Yaddo and Djerassi Artists Program.
