Ukrainian Egg Decorating Workshop
Pysanky are eggs decorated with traditional Ukrainian designs. Historically, this process is practiced during the Spring, in anticipation of the Easter season. We use real hen eggs, designing with a special tool and beeswax. Then the egg is dyed, followed by more designs and different dyes until the wax is then removed revealing a unique multicolored design. Class will include historical background, instruction in the process, and all supplies, designs and tools needed. No artistic ability is required. I have been creating pysanky since the mid '70s. I have conducted classes for children, adults and senior citizens; in classrooms, private homes and art venues. I have also demonstrated this process at craft fairs. My eggs have won awards at the Sonoma County Fair and the Harvest Fair. I have provided pysanky for sale at The Made Local Marketplace for several years, both at Eastertime and as decorations for the Holidays.
