First Annual Carnaval Celebration
On March 26, Aux Petits Soins, Lansings only French cultural center and French language immersion program, will host its First Annual Carnaval Celebration. This will be an authentic representation of the French holiday of Carnaval. While most Americans are aware of the French association with Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), most arent as familiar with Carnaval (Carnival), mostly because of its popularity in New Orleans. Carnaval is big in southern France and throughout the Caribbean, where there are many French departments and therefore a lot of French history. The Aux Petits Soins Carnaval Celebration is designed to introduce Metro Lansing to this important French holiday, and maybe start a new local annual tradition.
The cost will be $15 per person, or $12 if your tickets are purchased before March 19. Kids under 2 are free. The price includes a cone of French beignets and a glass of non-alcoholic sparkling cider. There will also be a craft station for kids where they can make their own mask and a French music class for all ages. Whether youre completely bilingual or dont know a word of French, this party has been designed to be fun and accessible for everyone. The only requirements are that you have an interest in French culture.
