Benefit Concert for Standing Rock
O'Connor's Vault
Portland, OR
Share this event:

The Road Sodas, Gary Furlow and the Loafers, and Woodlander will perform in the intimate atmosphere of O'Connors Vault.  All proceeds will go toward legal defense of the Water Protectors at Standing Rock, provided by the Civil Liberties Defense Center (CLDC)* in Eugene.

Armed with only a banjo and guitar, the Road Sodas roadsodas.com/  infuse traditional songs and melodies with emotive harmonies and sparse, thoughtful arrangement. Their lyrics blend the political with the personal, creating songs that are as much about the heart as they are a call to action.

Gary Furlow garyfurlow.com/ is a smooth talker in the low registers.  He can take you to his hometown, New Orleans and back, in the matter of a breath between phrases. He sings his steamy gulf-simmered stories like he was there when it all went down, which he probably was.  Gary's Portland band, The Loafers, overlaps with Woodlander featuring Kerry Canfield on bass and Paul Douglas on fiddle, guitar and harmonica.  Phil Hornik on guitar and Matt Miner on drums round out the Loafers.

Formed from the acoustic kernel of Wheatfield, Woodlander http://www.reverbnation.com/woodlandermusic is a trio of award-winning multi-instrumentalists and vocalists who play acoustic Americana. Will Hobbs, Paul Douglas and Kerry Canfield have played together since the 1970s in a popular Northwest rock/country/bluegrass band called Wheatfield (www.wheatfieldoregon.com), which was recently inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame (www.omhof.org).  All three write, and Will has several local and national songwriting and lyric competition wins to his credit. With three singers and multi-instrumentalists, you can expect many three part harmonies, along with various combinations of instrumentation and musical influences.

*CLDCs projects educate people about their rights and why their rights are important, we defend front line activists, and expose and confront the persistent erosion of our civil liberties and the Bill of Rights. We believe knowledge is power, when, people have the tools and understanding to take action and demand that the government honor all their rights, then grassroots activism will be the best chance of exacting necessary change. CLDC educates, supports, and defends grassroots activists.  Tax deductible donations can be made directly to cldc.org to support their defense work at Standing Rock.
