ONIONZ an NYC house legend
1980's DJ culture in New York City was blazing hot with hip-hop, reggae, funk & disco, as well as early electronic music. DJs such as Onionz rooted in these various styles to learn the craft & serve up a customized blend of sounds for dance floor devotees.
Onionz' immense respect for music & dedication to DJ'ing grew in a natural progression from his early exposure to the rhythmic grooves of salsa & jazz music, the heritage taken from his father Victor Venegas, the bass player with luminaries such as Nina Simone, Mongo Santamaria, and Celia Cruz. Such percussive beginnings based in the salt of the earth, allowed Onionz to move from 2 conga drums to 2 turntables - and that is where his musical journey into the Hall of Fame of electronic music began.
The underground scene of New York City in the 90's reached the epitome of our digital future; events enabled with advanced technology blew young minds into the stratosphere. The ever-innovative Onionz stayed cutting-edge, creating his Electrik Soul label so that he could help guide the foundation of global dance music culture.
Over the past three decades, Onionz has toured all over the world, playing on every continent except Antarctica, and holding residencies at some of electronic music's top, legendary venues, including Ministry Of Sound, Stereo Montreal, The Roxy, Pacha Ibiza, and many others.As a renowned producer, Onionz is recognized for remixing and producing some of music's biggest names, such as Candido, Robert Owens, Carl Cox, Robin S, Mariah Carey, Roy Ayers and more.
