Mariachi Women in History - College Scholarships Fundraising Fiesta!
In honor of Women's History Month and in partnership with the Women's City Club of Pasadena, Mariachi Women's Foundation and Soroptimist International Altadena/Pasadena are hosting a College Scholarships Fundraising Fiesta and cultural celebration to be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the historic 1906 Blinn House, home of the Women's City Club of Pasadena. 6:30-7:00pm - No-host Bar and Light Latin Appetizer Buffet
7:00-7:30pm - Revealing presentation on the unknown history of women in mariachi music to include a visual presentation of vintage photographs and authentic costumes by the world's leading expert on this topic, Dr. Leonor Xochitl Perez. Dr. Perez is the Director and Founder of the Mariachi Women's Foundation and has presented both nationally and internationally, including the University of British Columbia, Kazakh National University of Arts, University of Southern California, University of Santa Cruz, and the Women's Museum of California.
7:30-8:30pm - Musical and dance demonstration and entertainment by all-female performers, Mariachi Divas, Grammy Award winners and nine-time Grammy nominees.
A "Pass the Sombrero" fundraiser and raffle will be held to raise scholarship funds for a deserving mariachi woman pursuing a college education in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM Program). The scholarship will be awarded at the 4th Annual Mariachi Women's Festival on March 25, 2017 to be held at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse.
Join us to kick off National Women's History Month with another fun "Party with a Purpose!" at the Women's City Club of Pasadena.
