Hidden Door Festival, Sunday 28th May
The first weekend comes to a close at Hidden Door with an extravaganza of cinema, theatre, poetry and spoken word.
In the main auditorium, we will have a very special screening of one of the oldest animated feature films, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, with a bewitching live score by SiNK. Made in 1926 by German animator and director Lotte Reiniger, Prince Achmed is a beautifully crafted piece of storytelling based loosely on the Arabian Nights, told using a magical silhouette animation technique. Reaching beyond their usual instrumentation of violin, accordion and saxophone, SiNK have created a score that is in part composed and in part conjured; improvising and experimenting as Reininger did with shape and colour 90 years ago.
Spoken Word and Poetry from Jenny Lindsay and Flint & Pitch presenting a show of emerging talent, one-off collaborations, top music, spoken word, theatre and more. A delicious mix of talent takes to the stage with a line-up to send you happily into the following week, with A New International, Bella and the Bear, Ellen Renton, Michael Pedersen and many more.
Annie Rutherford & Rebecca DeWald perform Found In Translation, celebrating translation in all its forms and showcasing work which interweaves not only different languages but also different art forms.
Theatre includes Tam Dean Burn presenting an adaptation of Stuart Campbells Leith-set novel, John McPake and the Sea Beggars; and Theatre Sans Accents present their first original production Lost in Translation, which examines bilingualism as a journey across language and culture. There are also further performances of Charlotte Hastings Heroines; Annie Lord's Graft and The Mash Collective.

Returning for its fourth edition, the non-profit and 100% volunteer-run multi arts festival will this year take place in the old Leith Theatre; with 10 days and nights of music, theatre, visual art, film and spoken word bringing the stunning venue back to life. Left derelict and decaying for 28 years, Hidden Door will provide the initial spark to get this art deco gem back up and running as a major Edinburgh arts venue and transform its empty spaces with the help of some of the best creative talent from Scotland and beyond.
The festival will be free to explore every day until 6pm, with tickets now on sale for the evening events.
