BIOS
ACE SPRAGG grew up on Chesapeake Bay, messing about in boats. She built her first raft at age 8, and has spent more than 30 years teaching on the water. She taught swimming, sailing, canoeing, and waterskiing at summer camps back East, where she was the Waterfront Director and Program Director for 15 years. After moving to the Pacific Norhwest in 2000, she started teaching sailing and cruising skills and currently serves as Program Director at the Northwest Maritime Center.
MARY CAMPBELL came to sailing later in life, but has has been making up for lost time. Her first sailboat was a 35' aluminum junk-rigged schooner she cruised all over Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. In 2007 she circumnavigated Vancouver Island. In 2008 she sailed to Glacier Bay, Alaska, and single-handed the boat back to Washington state. Mary spent the winter of 2011-2012 crossing the Sea of Cortes and sailing along the coast of Mexico. In the summer of 2012 she sailed with two other women from Honolulu to Darwin, Australia. Fall 2013 she delivered a 41' Beneteau from Malaysia to Australia with another person. Mary has sailed her Cascade 36, 'Sonrisa', to Desolation Sound, Barkley Sound, Haida Gwaii (formerly Queen Charlotte Islands), and currently has her boat in Alaska.
MARY FITZGERALD is a certified US Sailing Small Boat instructor. She's taught using many types of boats - from 8' El Toros to 26' Solings. She currently teaches introductory sailing classes, especially for women, and is an active member of the South Sound Women's Sailing Group. Mary received her Masters Merchant Marine License in 2009. She's cruised extensively in Northwest waters, and owns and maintains her own Newport 30, 'Clara McDougal', named for her grandmother.
