Merrimans' Playhouse Jazz Performance Series presents "After Ours" and "The Charlie Ballantine Trio"!
2 for 1 Concert at Merrimans' Playhouse!  "After Ours" will start out the concert, followed by  "The Charlie Ballantine Trio" for the second set.

"After Ours" is a self-described "head-nod-jazz" duo from South Bend, IN comprised of Eli Kahn (guitars & madness) & Arthur Schroeder (drumset) with a unique approach to improvisation & dynamic range. Having worked together for 9+ years as the rhythm section in different group settings ranging from traditional jazz combos to hip-hop to big-band to avante-garde to folk, the two musicians have developed a tight chemistry that translates to their original music & interpretations of contemporary tunes.

Charlie Ballantine - Guitarist
Named Indianapolis' "Best Jazz Musician" of 2015 by NUVO Magazine, Charlie Ballantine, is a professional guitarist who performs regularly around the midwest. Charlie has been a featured artist at notable events such as the Penrod Art Festival and The Indianapolis Jazz Festival and is a frequent performer at renowned jazz clubs such as The Jazz Kitchen and The Chatterbox.  He also holds a degree in jazz studies from Indiana University where he studied under Corey Christiansen, David Baker, and many others. His music stems from the traditions of folk, jazz, and blues music with influences such as Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Wes Montgomery, and Jimi Hendrix.
In early 2015 Charlie released his debut album "Green" which earned him local acclaim as well as being very well recieved nationally. Charlie's sophmore album "Providence" was released in May of 2016 and has helped him develop even more of a presence on the national level through reviews from a wide variety of publications (Vintage Guitar Magazine, Absolute Sound, Midwest Record) as well as making it into the top 100 on the jazz radio chart and being played on hundreds of stations worldwide.

Quinn Sternberg - Bassist
Quinn Sternberg is an electric and upright bass player from Bloomington, Indiana who is currently based in New Orleans.  I'm a recent graduate from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music with a degree in Jazz Studies, and have recently released my debut album, Weird World.  For the past 5 or so years I have been gigging heavily throughout the Midwest, playing a wide variety of musical styles including Jazz, Rock, Funk, Hip-Hop, Latin, Folk, and more.  In addition to performing I teach bass lessons to students of varying abilities, compose my own music, and record with different artists.

While at IU had the opportunity to share the stage with my teachers Dave Stryker, Steve Houghton, Darmon Meader, Luke Gillespie, Pat Harbison, and Tom Walsh.  I've also backed up touring musicians such as Bobby McFerrin, Randy Brecker, Christina Bianco, and Steve Lippia.  He currently plays and records regularly with The Brands, Mighty Brother, The Phunk Nasty's, JOA, Charlie Jesseph, The Black Acid Arkestra, The TIme Flies, and more.

Chris Parker - Drummer
Chris Parker is a freelance jazz musician in the Bloomington/Indianapolis areas. He has performed with Ralph Bowen, Jamey Aebersold, Jim Snidero, Frank Glover, Dave Stryker, Monika Herzig, and others. The jazz trio that he is a part of received a Downbeat Student Music Award in 2015. He is an active member of the Jazz Education Network and has organized their student jam sessions at the past 3 annual conferences. Chris plans to release his debut studio album in the summer of 2017, entitled Moving Forward Now.
