Listening and Speaking from the Heart: Compassionate Listening Training and Practice Group - Phone Class
Facilitated by Leah Green
February 19 - April 9, 2017 7 Sundays, 11:00 - 1:00 Pacific Time; 2:00 - 4:00 Eastern Time; 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. GMT
"Compassion is not a luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability; it is essential for human survival." ~ Dalai Lama
"I am another you." ~ Lak'ech Maya
Masters throughout the ages recognize listening as one of the most precious gifts we can give to another human being, and compassion as necessary for human survival. Our evolutionary capacity at this time may be directly linked to our ability to navigate conflict. In every human interaction, whether as friend, family member, mentor, co-worker, leader or social activist, the practice of Compassionate Listening builds trust, connection, understanding, respectful dialogue and sustainable solutions.
This phone class is an experiential training that focuses on the core practices of Compassionate Listening:
- Cultivating compassion for ourselves and others - Suspending judgment/Learning to be the Fair Witness - Maintaining balance in the heat of conflict - Listening with the heart - Speaking from the heart
Dear Friends,
Please join me for this nurturing class and practice group that will meet by phone for seven weeks. Compassionate Listening is a skill-set and a practice created for these challenging times. Whether you're wanting to be a more powerful peace-maker at home with your loved ones, in your community, work or activism (or all of the above!), this will support you. We will also practice self-compassion ~ the place where it all begins.
This training and practice group is for newcomers as well as advanced practitioners. I was skeptical about teaching and practicing CL on the phone, but I have been facilitating a phone class for the past year and I can tell you that it works. There's something liberating about not being able to see one another. Tuning into the sound of our voices and the expression of our hearts is powerful.
I will lead us through core CL exercises and create a space for community, connection and support. Our e-book, Practicing the Art of Compassionate Listening, is included in the price. After the class is complete, I will hold a second phone class to coach/support those wanting to create practice groups in their homes/communities. (If you're interested in our CL mentoring program to become a facilitator of our work, this second phone class is for you.)
To participate in this class, you will need a quiet, private place to be and a computer to join the call. We will use the online conferencing platform called Zoom, but will not use video. Zoom allows us to break into small groups for exercises and has additional features to support us. All of the sessions will be recorded, so you'll be able to listen in and catch up if you miss any of them.
As of February 7th, the training is confirmed with 16 participants; the group will be limited to 20 participants.
**My apologies - I know that this day and time will not work for everyone who wants to participate. I'll be sure to schedule the next training on a different day of the week. Feel free to send me an email and I will poll everyone before setting the date for the next class.
Cost: You can register here with your $75 deposit. As is my practice, I will invite participants to complete their payment at the end of the training, according to your perceived value and your ability to pay. The suggested sliding scale for the class of $150 - $300. Please contact me directly to arrange participation in the class if the $75 deposit is a barrier. (leah@compassionatelistening.org).
About me: I am the founder and director of the Compassionate Listening Project. Our curriculum grew from many years of reconciliation work with Israelis and Palestinians, as well as the skilled community of Compassionate Listening facilitators. I've led 26 delegations to the Middle East (including to Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon), co-founded the Jewish-German CL Project, produced three films and brought CL to a sweet Mayan village in Guatemala. I have facilitated and taught worldwide (I also facilitate Family Constellations) and my work has been profiled in numerous books and articles. I am currently mentoring people to become CL facilitators. I am passionate about creating safe spaces in the world, where we can slow down and speak and listen from our hearts and reconnect to what we hold sacred.
