Japanese Tea Ceremony with Tankokai
CHADO - Way of Tea
Please be our guest in the Shoseian Tea house for an unparalleled opportunity to experience a tea ceremony in our traditional roji garden setting at the Seattle Japanese Garden.
Practiced in Japan for centuries, the art of tea ceremony is imbued with harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility. 16th-century master Sen no Rikyu refined Chado, and the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic of simplicity and humility he taught had widespread influence, including on the architecture of tea gardens.
Experience a 40-minute tea presentation inside the Shoseian Teahouse. Visitors are invited to sit on tatami mats. Please avoid jeans, bare feet, rings, and personal fragrances.
To purchase tickets, please call the ticket booth at 206.684.4725 or email Klaus.goodrum@seattle.gov.
Tea Ceremony Tickets are $10 for Adults, and $7 for Youth. Regular admission to Garden is also required: $6.00: Adults $4.00: Seniors, students with college ID, and youth
Chado Uransenke Tankokai Seattle Association will host this "Introduction to Chanoyu" experience at 1 and 2 p.m. on the designated dates.
