The Psychotronic Film Society of Savannah (routinely named Best Local Film Series by the readers of Connect Savannah) is EXTREMELY proud to present - for 2 shows only - THE HOLY MOUNTAIN.

This is the infamous 1973 independent motion picture by iconic, visionary filmmaker and spiritual philosopher ALEJANDRO JODOROWSKY - whose one-of-a-kind, boundary-pushing career has been celebrated by the counterculture for decades.

For those unfamiliar with Jodorowsky, he began his career as a protege of famed mime Marcel Marceau, before becoming a trendsetting actor and director of experimental and absurdist theater, and, eventually, graduating to avant-garde filmmaking.

His second independent film, 1970's EL TOPO (THE MOLE) was a daring psychedelic Western which uncompromisingly mixed both violence and sexuality with Eastern religious attitudes. Considered the "Original Midnight Movie," it was intentionally only screened at midnight, and became a cult sensation which ran every weekend for years on end at noteworthy cinemas worldwide.

1973's THE HOLY MOUNTAIN was partially financed by his avowed fan the late JOHN LENNON, and continued to dazzle and bewilder shocked audiences with its spiritually inquisitive nature and graphic imagery - while earning critical raves.

It is the bizarre, darkly humorous and perplexing tale of a mysterious, Christ-like thief compelled by a magical alchemist to ascend to the top of a Holy Mountain with a group of seven unique compatriots -- each representing a different planet in the solar system.

A smash at the 1973 CANNES FILM FEST, this supremely psychedelic feature later screened at a single NYC movie theater for a staggering 16 months straight!

However, legal problems prevented it from being shown nationwide for over 30 years.

----

In honor of the glorious, enigmatic career of the great Alejandro Jodorowsky, as well as the important and highly respected contribution Muse Arts Warehouse has made on the greater Savannah arts communities, the PFS of SAV is proud to make its final public event before Muse's untimely closing this wonderful, singular motion picture.

It is required viewing for anyone remotely interested in experimental, fringe cinema.

WE WILL SHOW THE DEFINITIVE, RESTORED AND REMASTERED VERSION OF THIS FILM, WHICH IS IN SPOKEN ENGLISH.

*** EVERY $10 TICKET SOLD INCLUDES YOUR CHOICE OF CANDY OR SNACK FROM THE CONCESSION STAND!

Don't you dare miss this opportunity to see THE HOLY MOUNTAIN on the big screen, as Jodorowsky intended.

What the critics have said about THE HOLY MOUNTAIN:

"This is an extraordinary visual concoction, loaded with stunning primary colors, anti-religious caricatures drawn from Diego Rivera and a succession of dreamlike, grotesque vistas worthy of DalĂ at his most deranged."
  - Andrew O'Hehir, Salon.com

"Alejandro Jodorowsky's THE HOLY MOUNTAIN is a dazzling... satire on consumerism, militarism and exploitation."
  - Matt Zoller Sietz, New York Times

"A kaleidoscope of vibrant colors, free-floating archetypes and picaresque episodes, all packaged to disorient and confound us with its sheer exuberance, before finally bringing us right back to exactly who we are and what it is that we are seeing."
  - Anton Bitel, Eye for Film

"The Old and New Testament scrambled as a most sustained mushroom hallucination, one sight at a time out of Alejandro Jodorowsky's bottomless tank."
  - Fernando Croce, CinePassion

"Jodorowsky loves to confront the viewer with endless brutality and grotesque decadence and degradation, but here he expresses it with a rich, densely visual imagination."
  - Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times

"So loaded with symbols and religious references that the frames of the films flash by as if Jodorowsky were shuffling a deck of his beloved tarot cards..."
  - John Biefuss, Memphis Commercial Appeal

Please invite your friends to this special presentation, as we'd love to pack the house for Alejandro! This is guaranteed to be one of the most unusual and memorable motion pictures to be shown in Savannah all year long...
