System D Artists presents: Ghostlight- A Master Class Lecture on the Art & Science of Dramaturgy
What is the nature of dramatic action? How do plays actually work? What makes live performance so effective at telling important, human stories? Join Professor Michael M. Chemers for a dramaturgy workshop that will accelerate your understanding of script analysis, stage action, and storytelling in performance. Whether you are an experienced or novice actor, director, dramaturg, or playwright, this master class will give you some powerful tools for cultivating and shaping your theatrical practice.
Dr. Chemers is a dramaturg, playwright, and actor, and is the author of Ghost Light: An Introductory Handbook for Dramaturgy, a training manual that is now the primary text for college-level dramaturg courses across the world. With translations in Korean and Farsi and one on the way in Russian, Dr. Chemers work has made him one of the most important international voices on dramaturgy. Dr. Chemers was the Founding Director of the Production Dramaturgy Program at Carnegie Mellon Universitys prestigious School of Drama, and is now a professor of dramatic literature and dramaturgy at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
