HYPERNOVA Contemporary Dance Company presents "Bitter Suites"
HYPERNOVA Contemporary Dance Company brings together a powerhouse team of artists to create a live performance experience in their newest work, Bitter Suites.
Bitter Suites mixes fact and fantasy in a coming of age story that celebrates the nostalgia of growing up. Imaginative movement, music, text, and visual design intersect in a dreamy, pastel landscape. This bittersweet story follows five performers as they examine their own memories surrounding the inevitable transition from childhood innocence to self-aware adulthood. Iconic imagery and references from late 20th century pop culture heavily influence the costume, lighting, and set design. The original score meshes classical structure with instrumentation prevalent in the 80's and 90's.
Under the direction of Artistic Director & Choreographer Rainbow Fletcher, HYPERNOVA strives to present performances that are equally inventive and entertaining.
Bitter Suites is our companys first full length work and features new choreography by Rainbow Fletcher (Seattle, WA), live musical accompaniment by Composer Dylan Rieck and band mates (Portland, OR), conceptual collaboration, lighting, and set design by Randy Phillips (Seattle, WA) and performances by company members Ezra Dickinson, Rainbow Fletcher, Jess Klein, Randy Phillips, and Drew Santoro. The evening will also feature a debut teaser video of When Jupiter and Saturn Met, a piece that originally premiered as a part of the Northwest New Works Festival at On The Boards in 2014 and has since been adapted for film.
In addition, the cast will be moderating a brief Q & A directly after the show. HYPERNOVA welcomes all audience members to stay afterwards and learn more about the creation and concept behind the making of Bitter Suites.
