A Piece of Parade
"A Piece of Parade" collectively reimagines the present on stage. Guided by bell hookss idea that we have to root our imagination in our concrete reality while simultaneously imagining possibilities beyond that reality, performers start from their personal realities and reach for new ways to work together, exploring performance as a place to be built.
A parade is a heightened reality, a celebration of imagination, and a moment in which daily life is replaced with something more extraordinary. Its a meet-up spot, playful and potentially transformative. Multilingual, multi-languaged, and multi-generational, using poetry, dance (both modern and hip hop), dialogue, and music, A Piece of Parade walks towards a possible future.
Location and Tickets A Piece of Parade will take place the weekend of February 18th and 19th at 7pm at the Vault, 1104 Broad St. in Durham. The Vault is wheelchair accessible from the back entrance. Tickets will be sold in advance or at the door (sliding scale $1-35). Half of the proceeds will be split between the ten performers, and the other half will be given to Alerta Migratoria NC, a local, Durham-based resource for undocumented immigrants seeking asylum.
