"Of All Subjects My Delight": Music and Jane Austen
Join us for an afternoon enjoying one of the sensory delights of Jane Austen's world: Music. "Of All Subjects My Delight": Music and Jane Austen will feature a programme exploring music from Austen's era as well as music inspired by Austen's works.Part info-tainment and part music recital, "Music and Jane Austen" promises to give fans of Austen's work a keener understanding of the music in Austen's world and Austen in the music created since her time.
Terry Lewis (an accomplished Fresno vocal teacher, musical performer, and music librarian at Fresno State's Henry Madden Library) will lead the presentation as he discusses each musical piece and performs pieces for the audience. The first half of the presentation will focus on the music of the Regency era that Austen may have enjoyed. The second half will focus on music that has been written with Austen's work in mind, opera or musical adaptations, scores from the many film adaptations, and other works that took Austen as their direct inspiration.
"Music and Jane Austen" will be an afternoon event that Austen aficionados and historical music lovers will not want to miss! Ticket sales from the event benefit JASNA Central California (a registered non-profit) and their upcoming Jane Fest celebration, a day of lectures, craft booths, dances, and more celebrating the life and work of Jane Austen coming this September.
