RenMentality
The RenMentality concert series is an exploration of mental health and music in three acts, featuring works by Schumann, Wilson, Beethoven, Mussorsky and more. We will also be featuring the world premiere of a piece written by Boston composer Jay Mobley.

Renaissance Men has partnered with NAMI Massachusetts to find people who have been affected by mental health issues in some way, both people with lived experience, their family and friends. Their testimony will be the inspiration for Jays composition.

My goal is to present a compassionate, empathetic representation of the stories and reflections of people who have experienced moments or periods of psychological distress. Ultimately, my interest is in humanizing such experiences through their representation in music, thereby de-stigmatizing them for a larger audience - Jay Mobley

Each of the three acts will be opened with a song from the New York album, featuring the songs of Kurt Cobain, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year. There will also be a display of Expressive Digital Imagery EDI © created by participants in NAMIs Peer-to-Peer program. Peer-to-Peer is an eleven week recovery program for those personally affected by mental Health and addiction issues.

Judi Maguire, Director of Peer Programs at NAMI Massachusetts says Im so excited that NAMI Massachusetts and the people we have reached, can play an important role in this project. Renaissance Men have found a very creative way to add to the understanding of mental health issues, to reduce stigma and advocate for comprehensive mental health services that will allow peers to recover on their own terms.
