Berkeley Arts & Letters presents: Rebecca Solnit / The Mother of All Questions
**Update 3/6/17, this event is sold out.  We have ended all ticket sales as a result.**

In a timely and incisive follow-up to her national bestseller Men Explain Things to Me, Rebecca Solnit offers sharp commentary on women who refuse to be silenced, misogynistic violence, the fragile masculinity of the literary canon, the gender binary, the recent history of rape jokes, and much more. In characteristic style, Solnit mixes humor, keen analysis, and sharp insight in The Mother of All Questions: Further Reports from the Feminist Revolutions.

Joining her in conversation is Jeff Chang, author of the recent must-read collection We Gon' Be Alright: Notes on Race and Resegregation -- a wide-ranging look at the recent tragedies and widespread protests that have shaken the country.

Please join us for an unforgettable night of provocative thought and conversation!

Writer, historian, and activist Rebecca Solnit is the author of sixteen books about environment, landscape, community, art, politics, hope, and memory, including the national bestseller Men Explain Things to Me, Hope in the Dark, The Faraway Nearby, A Paradise Built in Hell, A Field Guide to Getting Lost, Wanderlust: A History of Walking, and River of Shadows: Eadweard Muybridge and the Technological Wild West (for which she received a Guggenheim, the National Book Critics Circle Award in criticism and the Lannan Literary Award). A product of the California public education system from kindergarten to graduate school, she is a contributing editor to Harper's.

Jeff Chang has written extensively on culture, politics, and the arts. His second critically-acclaimed book was re-released in paperback earlier this year under the title Who We Be: A Cultural History of Race in Post-Civil Rights America. He co-founded Culture Str/ke and ColorLines and serves as the Executive Director of the Institute for Diversity in the Arts at Stanford University. He has been a USA Ford Fellow in Literature and a winner of the North Star News Prize. Chang was named by The Utne Reader one of "50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World" and, in 2016, YBCA named him as one of its 100 list of those "shaping the future of American culture."

Praise for Men Explain Things to Me:

"It's a fraught time to be female in America (or should I say fraught-er), and Rebecca Solnit's Men Explain Things to Me is the most clarifying, soothing, and socially aware document I've read on the topic this year." -- Lena Dunham, Wall Street Journal

"The Antidote to Mansplaining." -- The Stranger

"Feminist, frequently funny, unflinchingly honest, and often scathing in its conclusions." -- Salon
