Empower Your Will
Join Lauren Slivosky for 90 minutes of asana (poses), pranayama (breath), and meditation accompanied by live soundscapes of Brooklyn based artist Afterlyte (Carey Clayton). All of the proceeds raised for this workshop will be donated to CAMBA, an amazing organization working with communities in East Flatbush, Brownsville, and East New York to improve lives through a myriad of opportunities.
Class will focus on building strength and fire through the naval chakra or Manipura, the area of power and stability for many physical poses and also the source of the relationship we have with ourselves. We will confront our inner strength with compassion so that we can chip away at the ego and approach challenges or frustrations in practice with peaceful clarity. By unleashing powerful, conscious control we can pour our hearts open and revel in the gratitude and light that exists inside all of us.
Following the practice we will chat about the energy centers of the body (Chakras) and practical ways to balance them to build a stronger relationship with yourself and naturally a stronger relationship to other people and the planet. We all want to enact change in this world and it starts by uncovering authentic confidence so that when we do act out it's in the truest, most loving way possible.
All levels of experience welcome!
What to bring: -comfortable clothes -yoga mat (OR available to rent at the studio) -water -an open spirit
About the instructor: Yoga arrived in my life during high school. Although a dancer since a young age my flexibility and range of motion was less than desirable for someone in my field so I was hopeful a yoga class would change that. Heated power yoga became my class of choice and I was hooked immediately, it was the first time I felt I could work in connection with my body free of the pressure to pour myself into a mold my ego manifested during much of my dance training. As my study and pursuit in contemporary dance continued, the yoga practice sat in my back pocket acting as the most grounding stone when anxiety, pressure and ego flared up in my body and mind. The philosophy and meditation behind the physical postures held my interest for the first couple years of my practice but it wasnt until I moved to New York that I decided to learn more and expand yogas role in my life wholeheartedly. Upon recommendation from a friend I continued my studies formally at Sonic Yoga in New York City. During their 200-hour teacher-training I dove into the philosophy surrounding this practice and gained a strong understanding of the asanas anatomically, energetically and emotionally. My training and understanding is physically rooted in vinyasa yoga and my meditation practice is growing and developing everyday through Buddhist teachings, Kundalini practices and personal experiences manifested into my own form of mindfulness through body-breath connection. Im inspired by change; my own, my students, the planets, and how relevant the practice will remain as our surroundings are in flux, causing uncontrollable shifts within us that through yoga, can always be cleared or repurposed into positive expressions. Movement continues to guide my expression, communication, and connection towards transcendence in this world and my depth of knowledge in leading a yogic life only continues to grow as I allow myself to follow an authentic path of living, learning, sharing and ultimately loving.
If you are prepared to listen to your Self then you will be able to take from the class exactly what you need to carve away the external blockage and dive into the deeply rooted love that fills your spirit.
Be well, live well and love well, Lauren
