I Don't Intend to Live in Fear: Recognizing and Reacting to Violence as a Woman
During the seminar we will discuss how perpetrators select and groom their targets for an attack. We will then look at tools for changing the situation at every stage.
By the end of the seminar you will be able to understand how to recognize a potential threat, change the situation at the earliest stage but still be prepared for the what ifs, and be familiar with quick release techniques from common grips grabs and holds.
The seminar will be facilitated by an expert in women's security: Ms. Nancy Osborne, CD. Major Retired.
Nancy has more than forty years of experience in Security. She served in the Security Branch of the Canadian Military for 21 years as the first woman in many non-traditional roles and ultimately retired as a Senior Officer.
She joined the United Nations in 2002 as one of the first four women ever to be deployed to high risk environments in the field as a security risk adviser. She served in many countries including Sudan, Lebanon, East Timor and India. In 2010 Nancy was appointed to a senior security adviser at UNICEF Headquarters in New York. From there she covered global emergencies and has provided extended surge support during serious crises in many other high risk countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea and South Sudan.
Nancy recognizes the unique security challenges that face women everywhere in the world. Over the past six years, she has taken the lead within the United Nations for providing women specific security training both in New York and around the globe. She has adapted and conducted womens training in more than 20 countries to an audience total of more than 700 women.
