DANCING IN CHARACTER WITH LADY JACK
Whether you are creating a piece for burlesque, for character dance or theatre, this class is a fun exercise in exploring individual creativity using music as the driving narrative force. Students will go through a series of theatrical and dance exercises, learn a set piece of choreography and adjust to portray three different characters. The class is designed for students of various skill levels. Be prepared to dance barefoot or in ballet slippers, jazz shoes or heels.

About the Instructor
Lady Jack is a multi-faceted Performance Artist and Burlesque Dancer from Chicago who delights in anything demanding red lipstick and a top hat. She is a presence in the Chicago and national scene as a performer, choreographer, producer and collaborator with others that conspire to create worlds of midnight festival and magic. Lady Jack was born out of portraying the character of a feminized Jack-in-the-Box. She is a trickster, a vixen and a wild card. She has performed in New York and New Orleans Burlesque Festivals and as a feature in shows in St. Louis, Minneapolis, and Grand Rapids. Last year Lady Jack had the honor of creating a performance art piece for Tedx Midwest, an event showcasing cutting edge thoughts in science, politics, arts and everything in between. Recently, she was voted into 21st Century Pinups top 100 performers of 2010.
THE PLAYFUL PEACOCK SHOWGIRL ACADEMY, the first school of its kind in the Twin Cities, was founded by Ophelia Flame and her bosom buddy, Gina Louise. Ophelia and Gina have been performing together since 2003 and have been teaching burlesque workshops since 2005, adding to it's faculty the illustrious Elektra Cute in 2014. The belief that there's a bit of showgirl is all of us is the drive behind their mission: to teach burlesque technique, performance, and history while encouraging self-expression and body confidence in a fun environment welcoming to students of all levels and backgrounds. The Academy also offers performance opportunities, bachelorette parties & special events.
