Debbie Wooten Headlines JAMCO. Comedy Series
Comedian Debbie Wooten is an expert on overcoming adversity. Debbie has suffered adversity. Born with Spina Bifida, Debbie contracted Polio when she was only five months old. Because of her skin color the white kids wouldn't play with her and the black kids didn't accept her because she was different. Her adult life wasn't much easier. She had two marriages that ended, one because of suicide, one because of abuse. But fortunately for her audiences she's taken her problems and faced them with strength, grace and a lot of humor. Debbie speaks to thousands of people every year to consistent rave reviews and standing ovations. Recently Debbie was chosen out of 20,000 people as the "cover girl" for an advertising campaign for Washington State's health system. Debbie's message is simple: "See people for who they are on the inside. It doesn't get more basic than that and it doesn't get more true."
Debbie is a board member of TACID (Tacoma Area Coalition of Individuals with Disabilties), and so she is always willing to tell you what a great job they do in the community helping people with disabilities. She will be the master of ceremonies at the TACID breakfast Imagine on the 18th of September at the Tacoma Sheraton Ballroom.
Give her a second and she'll also tell you about having her hip replaced ("It's a female hip."). She'll tell you about her marriage ("I've been married 32 years . . . it took three husbands."). She'll tell you about getting your children to leave the nest ("I had him throw a sleepover . . . and invited the army recruiter. I told my boy yo uncle wants you, but yo momma don't . . . three of 'em signed up.").
Debbie will make you laugh. Her sister calls her a funny liar. Debbie will tell you about overcoming obstacles. She's done it all of her life and she is still working at it. Her laugh filled programs are inspirational. Her laugh filled acts on TV and around Puget Sound are . . . well . . . hilarious. She's a professional speaker . . . a professional comedian, and a great lady.
