Contemporary with Owen Leavey
In this five week course we will explore every nook and cranny of the expansive dance genre that we know as "contemporary dance". Within these five weeks we will dive into what this genre is really about and why it is such an important style in today's industry. Every class we will focus on a different style of contemporary dance. We will learn choreography, technique, and even discover some new things along the way. Any dancer can take this class no matter what genre you feel the most at home in. We will attack the structure and expressive qualities of this genre in a clear and concise way. So if you are open to discovery and lots of work, (while also having a lot of fun) this is the class for you.
Owen leavey is a New Yorker from birth but was transplanted to Vermont at the young age of seven. Twelve years later however he is back in his birth state studying musical theater at CAP21 Conservatory in Manhattan. Owen has been a dancer for at least 9 years now but has learned from the best. He has studied with GMPA, Stowe Dance Academy, Broadway Dance Center, and now at CAP21. Versed in the styles of Ballroom, Latin, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, Ballet, and Tap, Owen has worked with industry professionals, including an original cast member of West Side Story, and the head of the New York Fosse School Of Dance. Although he may be new in the teaching world, Owen hopes to continue developing his own style of teaching today's cutting edge material.
