Maya No Maya. The word Maya in Sanskrit has many definitions, an example of its elusiveness. Extraordinary power and wisdom, That which exists, but is constantly changing, an illusion where things are not as they seem. The dance between the real and the unreal; the ephemeral and the material, creates this grand opera called life. Music serves as a bridge between the two worlds. As a group Maya No Maya perform primarily improvised music, allowing the performances to reflect a reverence of the moment, when what is ephemeral is drawn into the material, and passes on again through the veil of misty illusion. Using tabla, vibraphone, prepared electric guitar, found instruments, and subtle electronics; Maya No Maya borrows from classical Indian music and blends them with a background in western classical and jazz. In this way, they endeavor to continue the tradition of blending western and eastern musical philosophies to create music that takes you on a beautiful, transformative journey.
