Compassion Fatigue Prevention & Resiliency with Bonnie Howell
What is compassion fatigue? How does it originate and where does it reside? What are its physical, social, and psychological components and manifestations? What does it have in common with Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome? Who is at risk? What can caregivers do to develop resiliency? In this dynamic, interactive session Dr. Howell will summarize the history, causes, treatment and prevention of compassion fatigue aka burnout, secondary traumatic stress, caregiver stress, counter-transference and vicarious traumatization. She will Include an in-seminar exercise; Silent Witness: the Effects of our Work. Identify the true causes of stress in personal and professional care-giving situations. Introduce the skills required for successful internal self-regulation of anxiety: principally the ability to maintain calm and maximize performance regardless of the external context. Attendees will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent the symptoms of compassion fatigue through enhanced resilience. Attendees will receive a Take-Home Tool box: A five point self-directed Resiliency Plan that can be easily integrated into professional practice and personal life.
