Naima (SCR/DIR Sebastian Bonolis, ITALY, 2015, black and white, 05:00.) Among the streets of the Eternal City, a photographer is captured and carried away by his own illusion an illusion of love, surrounded and enriched by the spirit of the place. (US premiere. In Italian with English subtitles.)

Ron Zegwi Dan Pikan Pikan (SCR/DIR Azim Moollan, MAURITIUS, 2016, color, 9:00.) A suspended moment, attached to the memories of a woman. A brief introspection into her state of mind, her battles, her relationship with her daughter and walking the fine line of addiction. (New York City premiere. In Creole with English subtitles)

Sonar (SCR/DIR Mohammad Salam, IRAQ, 2016, color, 09:05). When several young men arrive in an Iraqi village and set up a tent to screen movies, a young girl finds an ingenious way to get two in for the price of one. The film speaks for childrens rights in its portrayal of the innocent mischief they resort to in order to navigate the overwhelming world of adults with all its restrictions. (In Arabic with English subtitles)

Dian (SCR Georgia Lin Sundling, DIR Tamara Shogaolu, INDONESIA, 2016, color, 20:00.) Mystery/supernatural drama. Dian, a woman trapped in the mundane expectations of daily life in her Indonesian village, has a marriage to Arief that has grown cold. She longs for love and affection. Unable to conceive a child and therefore worthless as a woman in her society, she turns to shamanic magic to save her marriage and status. Dian may also be the troubled spirit of a woman from beyond the grave. (In Indonesian with English subtitles)

Trail of Hope (Tarigh al-Amal. SCR/DIR Mohamed Echkouna, MAURITANIA, 2016, color, 15:00). Drama. Abdallahi, an abusive and self-centered taxi driver, meets Mariam, a young woman, on the deserted highway to Nouadhibou. Minutes after he drops her off at home, Abdallahi realizes that Mariam forgot her baccalauréat-prep papers in the car. He drives back to give them to her, but only finds her parents. With shock, wonder and respect, Abdallahi sits with Mariam's parents to listen to a story of emotional and physical abuse that will teach him a lesson. (In Arabic with English subtitles. Transitions (SCR/DIR Alamork and Kobi Davidian, ISRAEL, 2016, color, 14:50). Poetic drama. Mimi, a young Ethiopian immigrant in Israel, reconstructs her immigration story, stream-of-consciousness style. The images that shape her identity fade back and forth between the bleak but visually stunning highlands Ethiopia of yesterday  a world peopled by women chanting, working and moving in synchronic circles  and her present-day life in Israel looking to an uncertain future. (Special audience preview. In Amharic and Hebrew with English subtitles)

The Awakened Spirit (SCR/DIR Tumi Sejoe, BOTSWANA, 2016, color, 14:53.) What if the questions you asked could lead you to the truths you seek? The Awakened Spirit is a universal story of self-discovery and of awakening the spirit of greatness within set against the backdrop of cultural Botswana, its natural beauty and its people. An encounter with an elder woman leads to the unfolding of Segametsis journey. (US premiere. In Setswana with English subtitles)

La Etiuda (SCR/Martin Rath, DIR Yann Seweryn, POLAND, 2015, color, 7:00.)  Crime comedy. A prisoner murders his guard and tries to hide the body in the forest. When a woman accidentally witnesses it, the killer pursues her. Against all odds, she refuses to become another easy victim. It turns out that disposing of a body is not that easy. (US premiere)
