Photographing Your Artwork - A Workshop for Visual Artists
West of Lenin Studio
Seattle, WA
Share this event:

You have a camera, and have tried to photograph your paintings, or sculptures, and they just don't look right. What's all this about pixels and resolution and file size? What kind of lens, lights, backgrounds should you use?

There are so many aspects to making high-quality photographs of your images, needed for submissions, websites, reproduction, or archiving, that the process can be intimidating.
Join Michelle Bates for an afternoon looking at images (what looks great and what doesn't work), learning about all that's needed to be able to capture your work, and seeing sample set-ups for 2D and 3D artwork.

We'll cover types of cameras and lenses, lighting, backgrounds, shooting, color balance, digital files types (and even film!), software, file management and prep, and how and when to work with professional photographers.

Feel free to send images in advance and we'll discuss them during class, or to bring an especially challenging piece with you to photograph.

~~
Michelle Bates has been photographing since 1991, as a fine art photographer and educator, documenting theater and events, doing studio promotional and portrait photography, and photographing artwork for artists. Bates is the author of "Plastic Cameras: Toying with Creativity" about low-tech cameras, and has given talks and workshops all over the country. She developed this course for Artist Trust.
