An Evening of Opera - a benefit for Make Music St. Louis
A concert not to be missed. Internationally acclaimed opera greats Veronica Villarroel, Francisco Casanova and Lucy Arner along with St. Louis' own Kathryn Favazza perform opera favorites on Saturday, November 12th at 7:00 p.m. at The Ethical Society of St. Louis. Student, General and VIP tickets are available. VIP ticket purchasers will also enjoy preferred seating and a post-concert reception with wine and dessert.
Chilean born soprano VERONICA VILLARROEL has been acclaimed at major international opera houses throughout the world such as the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Hamburg State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, San Francisco Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Dallas Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Washington Opera, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Teatro Real Madrid, Gran Teatro del Liceu and many others.
Praised for his expressive bel-canto style - in the tradition of Aureliano Pertile and Pier Miranda Ferraro - FRANCISCO CASANOVA sang for 25 years in the great theaters of the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Theatre dell'Opera Roma, and many more, performing an extensive repertory comprising a total of 56 leading tenor roles - twenty two by Giuseppe Verdi alone.
Cuban born conductor LUCY ARNER brings to the podium a special affinity for Italian and French opera that is enhanced by her vast experience working in some of the worlds greatest opera houses such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Metropolitan Opera. In the fall of 2015, she was named Music Director and Principal Conductor of the New Jersey Verismo Opera. Ms. Arner was also a member of the Metropolitan Operas music staff from 1994 through the 2007-08 season. Specializing in Italian repertory and working with many of the world's most famous singers including Alfredo Kraus, Montserrat Caballé, Joan Sutherland, Luciano Pavarotti, Aprile Millo, Marilyn Horne, Sherrill Milnes, Mignon Dunn, José Carreras, Juan Pons, Mirella Freni, Placido Domingo, Giuseppe Giacomini, Sharon Sweet, June Anderson, Jane Eaglen, Anna Netrebko, Roberto Alagna, Angela Gheorghiu, Ben Heppner, Jennifer Larmore, Juan Diego Florez, Rockwell Blake, Paul Plishka, Olga Borodina, Dolora Zajick, Deborah Voigt, Renée Fleming and Thomas Hampson.
Kathryn Favazza has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall and The Sheldon Concert Hall, and has been seen in leading roles with companies including New Jersey Verismo Opera, Amato Opera, Riverside Opera, Smithtown Opera, and Opera Vivente. She has been featured soloist with various orchestras such as The Gateway Festival Orchestra, The BCC Orchestra, and The Garden State Philharmonic.
