The Ball of Poets
Russian culture is rich in great poetry. To Russians, poetry is the language of love. The Theatre of Poetry and Music by Rustem Galitch celebrates this with a series of performances titled "The Ball of Poets", which combines poetry, music and ballroom dancing. To date, there have been dozens of these balls that celebrate poets, taking place in various cities across America, Australia, New Zealand, throughout Europe and, naturally, throughout Russia. This is an event that has been lauded by hundreds of Russian poetry lovers, having been met with praise everywhere Rustem Galitch has performed.
The performance of the poetry by the Master of Artistic Word is organically combined with music and dance by artists of a high caliber. This ensures the success of the act for an audience of all ages. Rustem always strives to include local professional artists in his productions. Philadelphias version will feature violinist Dmitry Vaks and ballroom dancer Ekaterina Lezhava.
"Poetry Ball, Poetry Ball - the Ball of Poetrys own soul! These words, exclaimed at the beginning of Rustem Galitchs program, refers to the genre of the poetic evening. Rustem Galitch himself leads the program. The principle idea, the "invitation" of poets celebrated in the ball, is what takes place in the imagination of the audience, according to the actor, which is reflected in a line from a poem by Konstantin Balmont: "we love poets, similar to us." Rustem Galitch perceives each poet as his friend, with whom his is closely associated with. Each invitation is accompanied by a brief personal history of the poet, which better informs the art.
Whose poetic presence is honored at the Ball of Poets? Of course, first and foremost, the most recognized classics of the Golden and Silver Ages of Russian poetry: Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov, Innokenty Annensky, Nikolay Gumilev, Alexander Blok, Sergei Yesenin, Igor Severyanin, Vladimir Mayakovski, and Sasha Czerny. More beloved poets could be named, but you cannot "embrace the boundless".
The musical accompaniment of the evening flows most organically, which is followed subtly by the main content, accentuating the mood of the artist's performances. Reflecting on the poetry serves as a means to bolster the atmosphere of the poetic aftertaste. After the reading of a work, viewers should be able to delve even deeper into the poetic spirit, consistent with its own soul.
"Ball of Poets will be presented as a part of the first International Festival Sounding Russian word" (New York-Philadelphia).
